How to register your trailer with Main Roads

To register a box trailer in Queensland is a simple procedure; the customer has to physically register the trailer themselves. Queensland Department of Transport has made it all but impossible to register a trailer on a customer’s behalf. For the customer to accomplish registration they will require the following paperwork;

1. TAX INVOICE

Clearly showing the VIN #, this is required to demonstrate proof of ownership.

2. VEHICLE REGISTRATION APPLICATION

This is a blue / green form available from the Department of Transport (you can generally get these forms in bulk from your local DOT if you ask nicely!)

3. SELF ASSESSMENT OF SINGLE AXLE TRAILERS

This will be provided to you by the manufacturer or dealer at the point of purchase.

Customers are not required to take the trailer to the department of transport, only these three items of paperwork (which will be provided) as well their Queensland Drivers License. All they have do is lineup, submit paperwork, pay registration fee and they leave with a Number Plate in generally 10 –15 minutes, you then can fit Number Plate before the trailer is released.
